DISTRICT SENIOR AND OPEN FOURS
THURSDAY 24TH AUGUST 2023
Wow, what a day for 3 of our teams playing in the District Open and Senior Fours at Forster.
In the District Open Fours, Julie Curry, Sharyn Newcombe, Terrie Bowman and Maz Gorrie won their Round 1 match convincingly playing tremendous bowls against the Forster team of Maxine Calladine, Leanne Burgess, Joan Thomas and Sarah Boddington. In the Semi-Final their opponents from Tuncurry Beach were Lynette Mooney, Pam Coleman, Kylie Ward and Diane Smith and what a terrific game this was to watch. It was also going to be close and it came down to the wire with Tuncurry winning 23-20 to progress through to the Final. Congratulations to Julie, Sharyn, Terrie and Maz on a tremendous day of bowls played.
In the Quarter Finals of the District Senior Fours, we had 2 teams playing in the morning.
Vicki Piper, Lyn McVicar, Val Feuersanger and Jill Callaghan’s opponents were Dianne Munro, Robyn Gillogly, Carol Kriss and Laurell Dennes from Wingham. It was a great game to watch with Wingham getting off to a good start and Sporties fighting back, with the winner being determined on the last end. Our ladies put up a great effort however, it was Wingham who won the last end to progress through to the Semi-Final. Congratulations to Vicki, Lyn, Val and Jill on a tremendous effort.
In another Quarter-Final we had Susan Leonard, June Kilpatrick, Donna Hampson and Karen Carlton’s opponents were Patricia Wilson, Sue Smith, Maharion Heininger and Sue Thomas from Tuncurry Beach. This too was a great game to watch with Sporties playing great bowls to win and progress through to the Semi-Final.
In the Semi-Final their opponents were Lenore Campbell, Dorothy McElroy, Patricia Hartmann and Julie Hamilton from Forster. Once again, we were treated to a great game of bowls to watch. Our Sporties team were playing great consistent bowls and kept Forster at bay to win the Semi-Final and progress to the Final of the District Senior Fours. Congratulations to Sue, June, Donna and Karen good luck and good bowling in the Final.
FRIDAY 25TH AUGUST @ TAREE LEAGUES
FINAL DISTRICT SENIOR FOURS
Susan Leonard, June Kilpatrick, Donna Hampson, Karen Carlton (TFS) 12 defeated by Gina Pain, Liz Gray, Kim Rudd, Claire Kelly (Forster) 20.
Congratulations to both teams on an entertaining game of bowls played in this morning’s Final. It was so close, after 12 ends Sporties were 9 and Forster 8, then Sporties picked up 3 shots on the next end to lead 12 -8. Then it was Forster’s turn to pick up 3 shots to be only 1 shot behind Sporties. On end 15 Forster picked up another shot and the score was 12 all and it was anyone’s game. Forster picked up 6 shots over the next couple of ends to lead Sporties 18-12 going into the last end. As hard as Karen’s team tried to pick up the required shots to win, it was not to be and Forster won 20-12.
Congratulations to Sue Leonard, June Kilpatrick, Donna Hampson and Karen Carlton on tremendous bowling throughout the District Senior Fours. Well done to Donna and Karen on backing up after winning this Championship last year and to make it through to the Final again this year and finishing as Runners Up.
