August 11 –Round 2 Major Singles
T. Bowman defeated K. Griffiths, J. Lawrenson defeated A. Blayden, V. Piper defeated E. Windle, D. Bauerhuit won on forfeit from M. Fitzgerald, J. Kilpatrick defeated L. Bragg, S. Leonard defeated K. Carlton, H. Bush defeated D. Hampson. L. McVicar defeated R. Higham.
August 31 – QUARTER FINALS MAJOR SINGLES
Terrie Bowman defeated Judy Lawrenson, Vicki Piper defeated Lyn McVicar, Dianne bauerhuit defeated June Kilpatrick and Susan Leonard wof Helen Bush.
Friday September 1 – MAJOR SINGLES – SEMI-FINALS
Vicki Piper defeated Terrie Bowman and Susan Leonard defeated Dianne Bauerhuit
In the S/F between Vicki and Terrie, it was Vicki who got off to the perfect start picking up 4 shots in the first end, however Terrie came back in the next end collecting 3 shots. Over the next 9 ends Vicki won 6 and Terrie 3 for Vicki to increase her lead 15-7. Over the next 10 ends played Vicki won 7 and Terrie 3 for Vicki to win the Semi-Final 25-10. Congratulations to both Vicki and Terrie on a good game of bowls played in windy conditions.
In the S/F between Susan and Dianne, it was Dianne who won the 1st end and with Susan coming back to win the next 4 ends to take a handy lead 11-1. Over the next 6 ends they both won 3 ends each and Susan increasing her lead 20-5. In the next 6 ends played they each won 3 ends with Susan winning the Semi-Final 25-11. Congratulations also to Susan and Dianne on a good game of bowls played in windy conditions.
The Final of the 23-24 Major Singles played on Thursday 7th September was a terrific game to watch with many a good bowl played by both Vicki and Susan. Vicki got off to a good start by picking up 3 shots on the first end played, with Susan winning the next end with 1 shot to steady the nerves. Vicki won the next end to lead 4-1, but not for long with Susan winning the next end with 4 shots to take the lead 5-4.
Over the next 7 ends they were virtually going shot for shot with Vicki taking the lead by 1 shot to be 9-8 up. Vicki then consolidated her lead by collecting 11 shots over the next 5 ends to have a handy lead by 12 shots, 20-8. Susan won the next 2 ends and the score was 20-10 in favour of Vicki, however, it was Vicki who won the next 2 ends and pick up the 5 shots required to win 25-10 and win the 23-24 Major Singles Championship.
Congratulations to both Vicki and Susan on playing so many consistent draw bowls in very windy conditions. Congratulations to Vicki on playing in her 4th consecutive Major Singles Championship Final, having now won it twice and being runner up on 2 occasions. Also, congratulations to Susan on her consistent draw bowls played throughout the Championship and being Runner Up.
