2021 STATE GRADE 3 PENNANT CHAMPIONS

THEY DID IT – FIRST WOMEN’S STATE PENNANT FLAG FOR SPORTIES

The Women’s State Pennant Finals for Grade 3 were played at Tuncurry Sporties and Foster Bowling Clubs between 18th-20th March. The bowls played during the three days were exceptional, and in the end, it was the hometown Team of Tuncurry Forster Sports W.B.C. Grade 3 Pennant Team who stormed home in the Final to win the 2021 Grade 3 State Pennant Flag.

Across the three days, all players from the Sporties Side played to their full ability by winning 2 games and 1 loss to win their Section on 11 points.

In the Semi-Final their opponents were Gymea who also won their Section and were in good form and bowling consistently. In the early stages the scores were fairly even and then the Sporties Side hit their straps with Karen Carlton’s team winning their rink 24-9 and Nancy Shaw’s team winning their rink 24-15 to claim victory and win the game 48–24.

In the Final it was Tuncurry Forster Sports up against The Rules Club Wagga and what a game of bowls!  For the first three quarters of the game, very little separated the two sides with the lead changing multiple times. The quality of bowls put down by both sides was incredible, entertaining the rink side crowd. The pivotal moment came with six ends to go, when both Tuncurry-Forster Sports rinks picked up scores of four and five to catapult them into a ten-shot lead. From there, they stormed home with Karen Carlton’s team rink winning 22-16 and Nancy Shaw’s team rink winning 31-20, to claim a 53-36 victory, and the first Women’s State Pennant in the club’s history.

Congratulations to Julie Curry, Lyn McVicar, Donna Hampson, Karen Carlton, Sue Langridge, Sharyn Newcombe, June Kilpatrick and Nancy Shaw on playing tremendous and at times spectacle bowls throughout the 3 days to win the Women’s Bowls 2021 Grade 3 State Pennant Flag.  Also, THANK YOU to Jenny Grant (Reserve) and Helen Bush (Side Manager) and all the supporters who cheered and supported the Side over the three days.
