MAJOR PAIRS – SEMI-FINALS – THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 21
J. Curry & K. Carlton 23 defeated V. Feuersanger (Sub for J. Lawrenson) & L. McVicar 22
In the S/F between Val (sub for Judy Lawrenson) and Lyn playing against Julie and Karen, it was Karen’s team who won the first 2 ends to lead 4-0. Then Lyn’s team settled and won the next 6 ends to take a hand lead of 13-4. Julie & Karen then won the next 4 ends to be only 2 shots behind 11-13. By End 17 Julie and Karen had the lead by 2 shots 18-16. In the next 2 ends Val and Lyn picked up 6 shots to take the lead again 22-18. On End 20 Julie & Karen picked up 4 shots and it was 22 all going into the last end. The Umpire was called on End 21 to decide who had shot and it was Julie and Karen who picked up the 1 shot required to win their Semi-Final 23-22. Congratulations to all 4 Ladies for many good bowls played in very windy conditions.
S. Ryan & N. Shaw 23 defeated K. Negus & J. Houston 13
In the S/F between Kay and Jackie playing against Sue and Nancy, it was Nancy’s team who got off to a good start and lead 9-5 after 6 ends. Sue and Nancy won the next 3 ends and had a handy lead of 13-5 after 9 ends. Kay and Jackie came back to win the next ends to be down 9-13 after 12 ends. Sue and Nancy lead 16-13 after 17 ends. As hard as Kay and Jackie tried it was Sue and Nancy who won the remaining 4 ends to win the Semi-Final 23-13. Congratulations also to all 4 Ladies on playing many a good bowl in very windy conditions.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 22 – FINAL MAJOR PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP
Julie Curry & K. Carlton 22 defeated S. Ryan & N. Shaw 7
The Final of the 23-24 Major Pairs was a terrific game to watch with many a good bowl played by Julie, Karen, Sue and Nancy. Julie and Karen got off to good start winning the first 2 ends and led 3-0. Sue and Nancy won 2 of the next 3 ends and by End 5 it was 4 all. Julie and Karen consolidated to win the next 7 ends to have a handy lead 13-5 after 12 ends. Sue and Nancy won 3 of the next 5 ends played and by End 17 it was 16-7 in favour of Julie and Karen. However, as hard as Sue and Nancy tried it was Julie and Karen who won the remaining ends to win 22-7 and win the 23-24 Major Pairs Championship.
Congratulations to Julie, Karen, Sue and Nancy on playing many good bowls in very windy conditions. Congratulations to Karen and Julie on winning the 23-24 Major Pairs Championship, and to Karen on wining her second consecutive Major Pairs Championship having won it last year. Also, congratulations to Sue and Nancy on the good bowls played throughout the Championship and being 23-24 Major Pairs Championship Runner Up.
